A Chrismon Celebration
Back to Calendar
Join us on Thursday, December 4, 2025, from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. at Brentwood UMC
to uncover the story behind the Chrismon Tree. James Wells, the Director of Worship & Arts, will guide us in singing congregational carols. Pastor Domenic Nigrelli will share insights on various ornaments, delving into their symbolism, historical origins, and spiritual importance. We 'll sing again and then three lay leaders will speak about the introduction of Chrismons to our church, emphasizing the significance of this ministry, particularly during the Advent season. All are welcome! Chrismons—“Christ monograms”—began in 1957 and draw on the rich heritage of Christian symbols to proclaim the Name, life, and saving acts of Jesus. Traditionally crafted in white and gold (with occasional red), they are displayed on an evergreen tree lit with tiny white lights—signs of purity, glory, and Christ the Light of the World. At BUMC, a recent volunteer effort repaired fragile pieces and created a digital catalog so we can teach, share, and cherish this tradition for years to come
